Hong Kong Bound!

source: The Sartorialist

My traveling shoes are back on, and I have a plane to catch to Hong Kong in a few hours. Do not worry -- the resident male remains at the helm, so shipments will move along as normal.

Hong Kong is the first part of the trip, with my end destination being more tropical. Wearables packed: Mociun Ikat dress, tights, Devotte green Leelo sandals, a few vintage dresses. I'm packing lightly, knowing that I will probably come home with more than with which I left.

SHOP GIRL

A reader tipped us off to the fact that Lucky Magazine blog Shop Girl featured our shop this week. Yes, as the post says, we are in the middle of a humongous sale and making room for Spring merch. I agree with Emily's picks: the IRO Yaffa blouse is a favorite of mine, something I throw on when I'm running out of the house and need to hide my oft-haphazard way of dress. Although its cut reminds me of a casual pullover and it is as comfortable as one, a simple pullover it is not: the silk fish-scale detailing is gorgeous and a perfect counter to the woven blouson sleeves. Unfortunately, some of her other picks have sold out ...

A Primer to French Dressing

Garance Dore

The fabulous Joanne Goddard (of A Cup of Jo fame) just received some pointers about how to dress like a French woman from no other than blogger/photographer Garance Dore. Well, that makes sense to us. Curious? Just a bit? They concluded, among other things, that French women wear a lot of stripes and engage in "unconscious layering." Read more about it here.

Happy Birthday!

Martin Isaac via Flickr
Happy birthday to us! An entire year has flown by since our little boutique went live!!! Can you believe it?

Speak the word "birthday" and I invariably think of piñatas. I love piñatas. My mind races back to the feeling of being whirled around, blindfolded, bat in hand, swinging at the air, the anticipation ... and the sound, crunch, of candy falling around. The funny thing is that not until about a few years ago did it dawn on me that piñatas are not a part of every child's birthday celebration. That's a shame. They should be.

What?

When did Garance Dore become available in English? As if I needed more of an excuse to spend time staring at that site ...

Happy New Year

I'm going to engage in the ritual list of resolutions. I doubt the resident male will provide his list, so here's mine (in no particular order):

1. Read for fun, rather than for obligation (I usually have a few fun books open at the same time. I just finished one by Junot Diaz, just picked up the new Jhumpa Lahiri, and plan to re-read the sparkly prose of F. Scott Fitzgerald.)

2. Take public transportation (I live in Portland of all places, land-of-bikes-Portland, or, as my friend Thomas calls it, the "coolest place for public transportation.")

3. Cook, cook, cook (On that note, I have been slightly obsessed with blog 30 Bucks a Week, a blog written by two people living in Brooklyn, NY that documents their budget-friendly attempts to cook delicious veggie (sometimes vegan) meals on a budget of, err, $30 a week. Yay for vegetarian polenta recipes!)

4. Be fearless/take more chances/allow myself to be young and stupid (We only have that excuse for so long.)

5. Ride a bike more often (Yes, I said "more often" because I actually rode my bike last month--when it snowed. It was a little exhausting.)
